TIM HOWELL
HahaSoso, located in Los Angeles and run by craftsman Tim Howell, specializes in Japanese and minimal styles. Design services and/or shop drawings available. Commissions accepted.
Originally from St. Louis Missouri and raised in Chicago, Tim studied sculpture at the University of Kansas under Phil Blackhurst. After school, returning to Chicago Tim became an apprentice with Pyramid Construction. Initially as a day job to support artmaking, he became engrossed in the construction process. Later, allowed to use John Okamura’s shop on Ogden Avenue he learned to make shoji. In 1997 Tim moved to Portland, Oregon for design and fabrication of traditional Japanese structures and furniture for Kurisu International under Hoichi Kurisu.
After establishing HahaSoso in Portland, Tim relocated to Los Angeles in July of 2000.
